INTRODUCTION

1.1. DOCUMENT PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to provide a detailed record of the live demonstration performed at the PKI lab in an effort to evaluate the capabilities of various biometrics and smart card Readers, and how they support the department’s current needs.

1.2. BACKGROUND

Currently, the Biometric Logical Access Development & Execution (BLADE) program with in the PKI Program office is in the process of evaluating a number of biometric and smart card readers to determine which reader will best fit the department’s needs in supporting the legacy biometric enabled PKI implementation, as well as the Departments HSPD-12. The selected reader will be backwards compatible and support all current PKI programs/projects. IRM’s Systems Integrity (SI) office performed these tests in the PKI lab.

1.3. PKI HARDWARE/SOFTWARE OVERVIEW

1.3.1. Hardware and Software Information

Table 1-1 lists the hardware that was tested. Table 1-2 lists the PKI software that was approved by the IT-CCB on December 17, 2003, CR 1-03054 and used to test the hardware in Table 1-1.
