Financial services powered by technology or shortened to Fintech is one of the most exciting areas where digitalization will affect most of the world’s population. A conservative sector with high barriers of entry due to compliance rules, a high critical mass of capital, and economics of scale. Digital distribution can reach consumers without a branch office, and other technological advances make it easier for newly founded companies to compete and disrupt traditional banks.

Several factors around the world drive Fintech.

  • Digitalization; The evolution of the medium which most financial services consumers have accessed services have gone from the analog environment in an office, through the phone via a phone call, to the desktop, and today through the smartphone in our pocket.
  • Unbanked population; 1,6 billion people worldwide have no access to financial services.
  • Democratization of investing; less than a decade ago was impossible for people with small sums of money to invest in securities other than mutual funds.
  • Divestment of offices; traditional banks are closing branches to centralize services through an internet channel.
  • Decentralizing of the financial system; some say crypto is the revolution of the financial system, and others say it is just a big bubble that will pop. Nevertheless, it is an area with rapid adoption and potential for new financial products.
  • Regulations; Both hindering and pushing the progress forward. AML and KYC are very costly for financial services providers.

Redeye has invited several companies and stakeholders within three fintech areas; Payments, Saving/Lending, and Crypto.

Presenters will discuss their respective companies, the markets, the technology, the regulatory landscape, and risks.
